The homeopathic principle

The meaning of Loschmidt's number

A dilution ratio of 1:1024 means that mathematically, not a single molecule of the original tincture (the material from which the homeopathic potency was created) can still be present. In the case of X potencies, this dilution ratio is reached after 24 potency dilution steps. In homeopathy, X 23 is known as Loschmidt's number, above which no material substance can have any effect: only the information in the alcohol-water solution can have an effect.

Even at medium potencies, a very high level of dilution is reached. For example, X 26 corresponds roughly to a drop of water in all the world's oceans together! The Belladonna X 90 used in this experiment is thus like a drop of water in our galaxy . . .

How do X, C and LM potencies arise?

The difference between these three potency forms is in the different addition of extra drops at each dilution stage and in the number of times that the mixture is shaken:
  • X potencies are diluted at the ratio of 1:10 and shaken 10 times. A X1 is thus created by using 1 drop of the original tincture plus 9 drops of the alcohol-water solution and shaking it 10 times. A X2 by 1 drop of X1 plus 9 drops, etc. . . .
  • C potencies are diluted at the ratio of 1:100 and shaken 10 times.
  • LM potencies are diluted at the ratio of 1:50,000 and shaken 100 times, with the added specialty that the original substance is a specially produced C 3 potency instead of the original tincture.
